More Than Half of Pasadenans Have Received at Least 1 Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine

1 new infection, 0 deaths reported as region moves into ‘orange’ tier

Only a single COVID-19 case and no new deaths were reported in Pasadena on Tuesday as the region stood poised on the edge of transitioning in the ‘orange’ tier under the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy and more than half of Pasadenans old enough to be vaccinated had received at least one shot, officials said.

No fatalities had been reported in the city in six days.

Pasadena city data reflected that 60,356 Pasadenans, amounting to 51.2% of the city’s population over 16 years old, had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines are currently only approved for use in patients 16 and older.

More than 35,900 Pasadena residents had been fully vaccinated, representing 30.5% of the city population.

Pasadena’s totals since the onset of the pandemic stood at 11,135 known infections and 335 deaths, according to city data.

Continued progress was also seen at the county level Tuesday, with Los Angeles County Department of Public Health officials announcing the criteria had been met to transition into the state’s ‘orange’ tier.

“Hopefully, we’ll transition into the ‘orange’ tier within the next week,” City spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.

L.A. County officials announced Tuesday that ‘orange’ tier restrictions would go into effect Monday.

Over the prior week, Pasadena public health officials recorded an average of 6.1 daily infections, records show.

At Huntington Hospital, officials reported treating 17 COVID-19  patients on Tuesday, with two of them being housed in an intensive care unit.

L.A. County Department of Public Health officials reported 368 new infections and 26 deaths on Tuesday, raising the county-wide pandemic totals to 1,218,958 infections and 23,110, City News Service reported.

Public health officials at the state level announced 1,996 new infections and 10 deaths on Tuesday, raising California’s totals to 3,566,464 cases of the virus and 576,788 associated fatalities.

The state’s average positivity rate over the prior week stood at 1.6%, according to California Department of Public Health data.

As of Tuesday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 40% of the state’s fatalities.
