Neon Retro Arcade in Pasadena to Reopen Friday

The Neon Retro Arcade, with locations in Pasadena and Northridge, is planning to reopen its doors Friday after weathering the pandemic with support from loyal fans, the company has announced.

After being shut down for more than 15 months, the arcade locations, including one at 28 S. Raymond Ave. in Pasadena, is ready to welcome fans of classic video games once again.

The owners, Mark and Mia Guenther, also operate a second location at 8943 Reseda Blvd. in Northridge. “We unfortunately announced the permanent closure of our Northridge location back in March 2021. The financial strains of such an extended closure were simply too great to move forward with both locations,” said Mia Guenther.

Once the pandemic forced the closure of their businesses in March 2020, the Guenthers reached out to the public in an effort to stay afloat.

Loyal customers swarmed to the arcade’s aid, raising a $10,000 online fundraising goal within nine hours. The fund has since garnered nearly $20,000 in donations.

“We are in awe of your generosity and truly touched by the nearly 400 wonderful people who have made contributions,” the arcade said in a written statement thanking donors. “Arcade regulars, current and former employees, fellow business owners, former classmates, social media followers from around the globe, and our dearest family and friends.”

Per the recently updated CDC/California/LA County safety guidelines, masks will be required for all unvaccinated and partially vaccinated guests.
