Construction began Monday on a new 194-room hotel in the Playhouse Village District of Pasadena. It is located at  550 to 566 E. Colorado Blvd., across the street from the popular Urth Caffe.

The six-story hotel, developed by Welcome Group Inc. and built by R.D. Olson Construction, is expected to open in the summer of 2024.

The hotel will be the only branded hotel in the Playhouse Village District, which is home to a number of theaters, restaurants, and shops.

The hotel will feature a rooftop bar and lounge with expansive mountain views, a bar and cafe, and an event space.

The hotel will also have 5,000 square feet of leasable space on the first floor.

The hotel’s modern design will incorporate the most current technology, including Wi-Fi throughout and Radio Frequency ID locks on guest rooms operable through a mobile device.

The interior design will highlight natural textures, with abundant wood surfaces, fireplaces, water features, and large format windows offering ample natural light.

Rooms will range from singles to penthouse suites on the sixth floor.

This is R.D. Olson Construction’s second AC Hotel for Welcome Group Inc. Other longtime partners on this project are architects AXIS/GFA, structural engineers Saiful Bouquet, and interior design by Wild Muse, formerly Design Force.

“We are excited to be working on another project for Marriott and to be contributing to this historic Pasadena neighborhood,” said Bill Wilhelm, president, R.D. Olson.
