Pasadena saw another day of COVID-19 cases that could be counted on one hand Thursday, officials said.

Four new infections were detected, according to Pasadena Public Health Department data. No deaths have been reported since April 30.

In total, city health officials have recorded 11,266 cases of the virus, along with 346 fatalities.

With a total of 21 infections documents over the prior seven days, the average number of daily infections in the city stood at 3.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 284 infections and 17 deaths Thursday, raising the pandemic totals to 1,236,456 infections and 24,057 deaths.

State and county officials began vaccinating children as young as 12 on Thursday, with the Pasadena Department of Public Health scheduled to do the same on Friday.

L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer said there are about 500,000 county residents aged 12 to 15.

“It is a key group of individuals for us to reach so that we can increase our coverage in terms of the county’s total population,’” Ferrer said Thursday.

She noted that while younger residents have been consistently had lower numbers of COVID infections during the pandemic, infections do happen.

She said during COVID surges experienced by the county, between 10% and 17% of cases were occurring in people under age 18.

“So as a reminder, it’s important to note that there are in fact cases among children and that children are particularly vulnerable whenever we see an increase in community transmission,” she said. “So they, just like us, benefit from keeping community transmission rates down very low.”

The California Department of Public Health documented 1,443 new infections and 46 additional deaths on Thursday, raising the state’s totals to 3,659,641 COVID-19 cases and 61,351 fatalities.

The average statewide positivity rate over the prior week stood at 1.1%, according to the CDPH.

As of Thursday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s deaths.
