New COVID-19 Cases See Downturn in Pasadena

After a month of steadily increasing COVID-19 infections, public health officials in Pasadena reported three straight days of declines, ending with 21 new cases detected on Monday.

The Pasadena Public Health Department reported 22 infections on Sunday and 26 on Saturday.

No new fatalities were reported over the weekend. In total, the city had documented 11,946 confirmed cases of the virus and 352 deaths.

Over the prior week, an average of 30.7 new infections were detected daily in the city, records show.

Huntington Hospital officials reported treating 15 COVID-19 patients on Monday, with two of them being treated in intensive care units.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 2,361 new infections and five deaths on Monday, bringing the county-wide totals to 1,305,704 COVID-19 cases and 24,690 fatalities. Officials reminded the public that reporting figures can lag behind over weekends.

Authorities said 1,096 COVID-19 patients were being treated at hospitals in L.A. County, representing an increase of nearly four-fold over the past month, the agency said in a written statement. As of July 2, 280 COVID-19 patients were hospitalized.

Monday’s county-wide test positivity rate was recorded at 6.2%, up from 1.3% a month ago, officials said.

Officials at the California Department of Public Health announced 33,407 infections across the state on Monday, as well as 150 fatalities. In total, the state had seen 3,873,771 COVID-19 cases and 64,085 deaths.

The statewide average positivity rate for the week grew to 6.7%, according to CDPH data.

As of Monday, L.A. County represented 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s fatalities.
