The Salvation Army has recently appointed the new leader of the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps.

Major Roy Wild, who previously led the Salvation Army in San Jose is now pastoring the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps. He was appointed on July 4.

“We love the city of Pasadena. We’ve been very welcomed by several people and there’s definitely a sense of a community that wants to help those that are here in Pasadena. And so it’s just been great,” Wild told Pasadena Now.

As new head of the local congregation, Wild will also be overseeing the construction and operation of the Pasadena Hope Center, a 65-unit housing development for homeless individuals, proposed to be constructed at 1000 E. Walnut St.

Wild said the project’s construction will begin this October, with the goal of starting the center’s operations in May 2023.

The four-story facility, which will serve homeless adults, including homeless veterans, consists of a 9,000 square foot Social Services Center on the first floor and affordable permanent supportive housing on the three floors above.

“With this Hope Center we know that there’s been some great partnerships with the city. And so we’re excited to be able to continue those partnerships,” said Wild.

Aside from the housing project for the homeless, Wild said the Salvation Army will continue to expand its services to be able to reach more Pasadenans in need.

Joining Wild in serving Pasadena’s Salvation Army are his wife, Paula, and three children. He and his family have been serving the Salvation Army for 22 years.

This is their seventh transfer since they started in the ministry, according to Wild.

“Both my wife and I have just been really encouraged just by seeing how the community is really supportive of the Salvation Army and those that are in need here in Pasadena has really been a true blessing,” said Wild.

Wild replaced Captain Terry Masango and his wife Rutendo Masango who were appointed to Seattle to serve at the Salvation Army’s Northwest Division.

Masango has been named Divisional Secretary for Business while Rutendo Masango has been named Divisional Secretary for Women’s and Older Adult Ministries.

The couple began working with the Salvation Army in 2000. They were named captains of the Pasadena Tabernacle Corps in 2016.

The Salvation Army is a Christian international movement. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs.
