Nonprofit Five Acres to Honor Decade-Long Volunteers

Altadena-based nonprofit Five Acres will celebrate the National Volunteer Month on Wednesday, April 16 by honoring its active volunteers, especially those who have served for more than 10 years in the foundation.

The honorees have given their time and efforts to serve children in need by being their mentors and role models, as well as bonding with them through sports activities, art projects and games on a regular basis.

Among the volunteers of Five Acres are members of The Dodgers, local Bank of America employees, Pasadena Jaycees, church groups, college students, seniors and other area individuals.

“What matters most is that our volunteers help each child know that someone cares,” said Five Acres CEO Chanel Boutakidis. “We truly appreciate and celebrate those who give their time and talents to make a difference in a child’s life.”

The volunteers will also share their experiences in helping children served by Five Acres.

Five Acres works to ensure the safety, well-being and availability of permanent family homes for children and families in crisis throughout Southern California. Their programs and services include residential care, education, mental health services, foster care, adoptions and domestic violence prevention programs. Nearly 7,000 children and family members benefit from the nonprofit each year.

The nonprofit organization is located in Altadena. Visit http://www.fiveacres.org for more information.
