Opinion: Rep. Chu Praises President Obama’s Plan to Expand Sick and Family Leave

Published on Friday, January 16, 2015 | 1:21 pm

President Obama announced proposals to help American workers and families by ensuring at least six weeks of paid parental leave for federal workers, calling on Congress to pass the Healthy Families Act, and helping states create programs to provide seven days of paid sick time a year. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) released the following statement:

“This is great news for workers and families. A good job should put you on a path to success and stability. Expanded leave will remove a roadblock that all too often puts family obligations at odds with professional obligations. California is already a leader in supporting our workers through paid leave, but instituting the President’s proposals nationwide will help the U.S. rise to the high standards already being met by most of the developed world.”
