Two second alarm fires erupted in Pasadena early Monday morning leaving four injured and 15 displaced, authorities said.

The first occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Rancheros Road just off Linda Vista Avenue, Fire Dept. spokesperson Lisa Derderian reported, in an approximately 5,000 square foot home. The home’s fire alarms awakened three adult residents, who escaped unharmed, Derderian said.

“Fortunately they had just invested in brush clearance,” Derderian said.

Units from Glendale, Burbank and South Pasadena assisted over 20 Pasadena fire personnel in extinguishing the blaze.

Less than an hour later at 2:00 a.m. in the 200 block of Penn Street a blaze broke out in an apartment building sending sending four to the hospital with minor injuries after they jumped out a second story window to escape flames in stairwell, Derderian said.

That fire displaced 15 residents and the Red Cross responded to provide assistance, she said.

The Penn Street blaze caused about $400,000 in damage to the structure and $100,000 to contents, authorities said.
