In a murder case that sent shockwaves through an Old Pasadena neighborhood in August, Guarry Lonnie Shuford III, a 32-year-old parolee from Los Angeles, is expected to be in court on Tuesday as the judge sets a date for a preliminary hearing on the case.

Shuford is facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in connection with a fatal shooting incident on Aug. 21 that claimed the life of a 34-year-old woman, later identified as Jamila Elysse Moss, in an apartment complex in the 200 block of South Raymond Ave.

The incident developed into an eight-hour search through the 347-unit apartmet complex at the Del Mar Metro station and standoff when the suspect barricaded himself in the victim’s apartment. Nearby residents were required to evacuate and were not allowed to re-enter until after the suspect was arrested.

In September, Shuford pleaded not guilty to the charges. He remains in custody with bail set at $3.075 million.

Records show Shuford was earlier convicted of second-degree robbery in a case that occurred in 2010.

The preliminary hearing date-setting on Tuesday will be held at 8:30 a.m. in Dept. H of the Pasadena Courthouse.
