Pasadena-based Ralph M. Parsons has been instrumental in the refurbishment of the multilevel terminal at John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

This is part of SNA’s $543 million improvement project, one of Orange County’s largest-ever public works programs.

Parsons was awarded by the Orange County Board of Supervisors in 2006 to manage SNA’s Improvement Program. The program was conceived to improve and renovate the airport’s facilities to meet the growing needs of the traveling public

It was made up of four components:  terminal (between the curb front and aircraft), landside (parking structures and roadways), air side (airfield, Remain-Over-Night aircraft parking, fueling, taxiways), and ancillary (miscellaneous projects).

“Parsons is pleased to have played such an instrumental role in delivering Terminal C to John Wayne Airport,” said Tom Barron, Parsons Group President. “This new, modern, high-quality facility will expedite passenger processing, provide increased security, and heighten the passenger experience.”

Under its 6-year contract, Parsons’ services include oversight of architect-engineer and construction activities, monitoring, reporting, and making recommendations regarding program planning, costs, schedules, and budgets.

“Parsons was a key partner in ensuring the Airport Improvement Program, and its contracted partners built a project that was on time and on budget,” said Alan L. Murphy, Airport Director. “We found Parsons’ professionalism and attention to detail to be very helpful in managing an infrastructure project of this size and scope.”

SNA’s new terminal comprises a total area of approximately 282,000 ft², including six new commercial passenger gates, security screening checkpoints, food/beverage and news/gift concessions, three baggage carousels, a Common Use Passenger Processing System, and other improvements, including multiple upgrades to the existing terminals.

A veteran in aviation services, Parsons is currently working on numerous large airport capital development programs worldwide. The opening of Terminal C marks a major milestone in John Wayne Airport’s Improvement Program. Prior to this opening, several other facilities were completed under Parsons’ management, including a 2,000-car parking structure, a 7-MW cogeneration plant, and an aircraft parking apron.
