Pasadena-Area Democrats Launch Voter Outreach Effort

An organization representing a coalition of Democratic clubs throughout Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley announced the start of its “get out the vote” campaign ahead of the upcoming election, now less than three weeks away.

The United Democratic Headquarters has begun its 2020 voter push to elect Democratic candidates in their state and federal races, including the race for the White House, in earnest, the organization said in a written statement.

“We are working hard to re-elect Assemblymember Chris Holden, State Sen. Anthony Portantino and our Congress Members Judy Chu and Adam Schiff,” according to UDH Chair Hoyt Hilsman. “At the same time, we want to make sure that Joe Biden is our next President and that the Senate and House are in Democratic control.”

Due to the pandemic, however, this year’s activities will look a bit different than in the past.

“While the UDH traditionally operates from a brick-and-mortar headquarters, this year it has enlisted hundreds of volunteers to work primarily from home – phone banking and texting, postcarding and posting on social media,” the statement said. “The get-out-the-vote effort this year will also be conducted mostly remotely, with volunteers urging everyone to vote early by completing their ballots and dropping in the mail or in official drop boxes.”

Social distancing and safety protocols will be paramount, Campaign Manager Jose “J.B.” Barrera said.

“The UDH is committed to the safety of its staff, volunteers, and voters, and will be conducting a largely virtual campaign,” he said.
