Officials Saturday released the name of a 67-year-old local man who lost consciousness while riding a bicycle in the Glendora area and was later pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The bicyclist was identified as Stanley Swantek of Pasadena, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

The incident was reported shortly before noon Friday on Glendora Mountain Road at mile marker 12.06, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Swantek was riding his Trek bicycle on Glendora Mountain Road when he began “experiencing complications from an unknown medical condition and lost consciousness,” according to a CHP statement.

A passerby began performing CPR on Swantek. Arriving paramedics took over, but later pronounced him dead at the scene at 12:22 p.m.

The CHP’s Baldwin Park office asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call them at 626-338-1164.

  • Oh no! Very tough to read this. I feel sorry for the family. On the one hand, this is sad and, hopefully, not painful. On the other hand, as an avid hiker and outdoorsman, the idea of going unconscious in nature’s beauty, engaged in what I love, is the way I want to go.
