District 3 Pasadena Board of Education member Michelle Richardson-Bailey will host “Back to the Future of a Culturally Responsive PUSD,” a community conversation, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30.
“Studies show that children of color experience greater learning outcomes when their cultural backgrounds and experiences are valued in the classroom,” said Richardson-Bailey.
Speakers include Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Dr. Brian McDonald, district Chief Academics Officer Dr. Elzabeth Blanco, and guest speakers Dr. Lybroan James and Dr. Mack Hines, both experts in the field of bias training.
The event will include breakout group discussions focused on the following question: “As parents or community stakeholders, how will you partner with PUSD to support this future goal?”
Event facilitators include Dr. Jerrell Hill, dean of education at Pacific Oaks College, Patrice Marshall McKenzie, LAUSD’s deputy chief of staff, film director Pablo Miralles; Day One Executive Director Christy Zamani, and pastors Kerwin Manning and Eric Johnson.
