Local bike shop collaborates with City to promote cycling and enhance rider well-being

The City of Pasadena is dedicating the entire month of May to celebrating cycling through its annual Bike Month initiative.

Bike safety is a key topic.  The City partnered with a local bike shop to embrace cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transportation.

“Number one, we always recommend wearing a helmet,” advises Mario Galeano, owner of Empire Bike Shop at 41 E. Orange Grove Blvd. “It’s also good to stay in dedicated bike lanes if one’s available. If not, you are allowed to use a lane of traffic.”

He also emphasized the importance of having reflectors, a headlight, and a taillight, as well as knowing hand signals for turning and stopping.

“With all that in mind, you’re ready to hit the road,” Galeano adds. “Have a happy and safe Bike Month. If you have any questions or concerns, find us here at Empire.”

Bike Month in Pasadena features a diverse array of events catering to cyclists of all ages and skill levels.

The City offers incentives and support to those who choose to bike to work, aiming to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions.

Pasadena’s commitment to promoting cycling extends beyond Bike Month, as evidenced by its ongoing infrastructure improvements. The recently completed Union Street Protected Bike Lane, spanning 1.5 miles, enhances cyclist safety and connectivity within the City’s cycling network, making it easier for riders to access key destinations.

By promoting cycling as an alternative to car travel, Pasadena aims to contribute to reduced carbon emissions and improved air quality, aligning with broader environmental goals.
