Pasadena City Council Focus their Attention on the City’s Water Quality Through Equipment Improvement

The City Council, during their June 10 meeting, is expected to focus their attention on water quality for the City of Pasadena, through equipment improvement.

The City Council will decide on whether to authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with Perry C. Thomas to provide labor and materials Allen Hydro-Pneumatic Zone Upgrades for the Water and Power Department, at an amount not exceed $531, 973.

The governing body is also expected to decide on whether to amend a contract with the R.C. Foster Corp. for the seismic upgrades at Sheldon Reservoirs 1 and 2, and have that contract to not exceed in amount from $2,231,000 to $2,417,000.

Also, the City Council will decide on whether to authorize the City Manager to enter a contract with Atlas-Allied, Inc. to provide labor and materials for the Eastside Well Collector Pipeline Surge Protection Project for the Water and Power Department, at an amount to not exceed $520,256.

In other matters, the Department of Public Works, through the Finance Committee, will ask the City Council to approve a journal voucher with a net increase of $995,000, amending six projects in the Fiscal Year 2013 Capital Improvement (CIP) Project Budget.

Specifically, the Water and Power Department is recommending that the City Council remove funding from four projects and transfer it to one project, the 4Kv Distribution System Conversion Project in the Hastings Ranch area.

The project calls for the conversion of existing 4kV distribution systems to 17kV.

“Continuing low voltage problems primarily in the Hastings Ranch area necessitate the escalation of projects that were originally scheduled for future years,” according to the council agenda. “These projects will additional capacity and redundancy in the northeastern part of the City.”

In other respect to committee appointments, Greg Gunther and Jonathan Edwards are expected to join the Transportation Advisory Commission, Nicolas Rodriguez to the Rose Bowl Operating Company and Stephanie DeWolfe to the Planning Commission.

Andy Wilson is expected to formally resign from the Pasadena Center Operating Company Board and Steven Parker is expected to reappointed to the Pasadena Center Operating Board.

Also, Ciran Hadjjian is expected to be appointed to the Recreation and Parks Commission.
