Pasadena City Council, School District Board of Education to Hold Special Joint Meeting Monday

The Pasadena City Council and the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Board of Education will hold a special joint meeting on Monday, April 29 at Pasadena City Hall, according to a public notice. 

The meeting, which will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber, will cover several topics related to school District and City collaboration.

The agenda includes a presentation from PUSD on school site maintenance, including gardening and landscaping information. 

Another item will discuss potential affordable housing for PUSD faculty and staff, with a focus on AB 2295 and SB 35. 

AB 2295, also known as the Teacher Housing Act of 2016, allows school districts to develop affordable housing on their properties for employees, streamlining the process by exempting projects from certain local zoning and planning requirements. 

SB 35, enacted in 2017, aims to address California’s housing shortage by streamlining the approval process for housing development in cities that fail to meet state-mandated housing targets. 

Monday’s meeting will also provide an update on career technical education and apprenticeship partnerships.

Public comment during the meeting will be limited to items on the special joint meeting agenda. 

Mayor Victor M. Gordo and PUSD Board of Education President Kimberly Kenne will preside over the meeting.

Free street parking will be available on the streets surrounding City Hall starting at 5:00 p.m., and free childcare will be provided for attendees. The meeting will be broadcast live on cable Channel 3 and online here.
