Pasadena Delta Foundation and Delta Sigma Theta Presented Academic Awards at “A White Linen Affair”

On Sunday, June 10, 2018, the Pasadena Delta Foundation (PDF) and the Pasadena Alumnae Chapter (PAC) f Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. along with a host of guests, family members, supporters and dignitaries enjoyed a lovely afternoon of good food, great music and big fun with a picturesque view from the La Canada-Flintridge Country Club as academic awards were presented to twelve deserving high school graduates.

Phlunte Riddle, Pasadena educator, businesswoman and leader, served as emcee, the Muir Jazz Band provided live music, and Deejay Jared Morris played exciting sounds which brought the guests to the dance floor.

Awards were presented as follows: Pyramid Awards to Mion Pointer and Connor Terry, Carolyn Edwards Jones Commemorative to Samantha James, Presidents Commemorative to Taicyanna Butler, Nelle Kigh Thompson Commemorative to Lanice Joseph, Gwendolyn & Tommy McMullins Family to Erandy Wells, Houlemard Family to Alena DeVaughn, Mabel Lockett Martin Commemorative to Kiera Smith, Jean & Clarence Mills Family to Corey O’Rane-Ealy, Anita Johnson Cole Commemorative to Tiyon Martin, Jane Strong-Moses & Jesse Moses to Jonathan Stephens and Willie Mae Hooks Lewis Commemorative to Zelmya Taylor. In addition to the monetary award, each student received certificates of achievement for Congresswoman Judy Chu, state Senator Anthony Portantino, Assemblyman Chris Holden, Supervisor Kathryn Barger, Mayor Terry Tornek, Vice-Mayor John Kennedy and Councilman Tyron Hampton.

PAC has provided service to the greater Pasadena/Altadena community since 1961. More than $435,000.00 in academic award has been presented to high school graduates. Upon its founding in 1994, PDF has partnered with PAC to address unmet needs in our community via fundraising. Donations have assisted in the funding public service projects and community programs which occur each year, such as the Young African American Women’s Conference.

Melinda Campbell and Charmayne Mills Ealy, Co-Chairs of the White Linen Affair Committee and their team worked tirelessly to plan an outstanding event to honor the academic awards recipients. Pixie Boyden is the current PAC President and Debra Ward-Samad is the current PDF President.
