Democrats rallied Saturday, Aug. 31 at the United Democratic Headquarters in Pasadena in support of the Harris/Walz ticket as well as Democratic Senate, Congressional and state candidates.
Over 300 supporters gathered at the headquarters to hear speeches from Democratic candidates and elected officials, including Congresswoman Judy Chu, State Senate candidate Sasha Renee Perez and Pasadena City Councilmember Jason Lyon.
“This will be a tight race for the White House and for Democrats up and down the ballot, but we have a lot of momentum and our local Democrats will be working hard from now until November,” said Hoyt Hilsman, Chair of the United Democratic Headquarters Steering Committee.
Congresswoman Chu, along with the other speakers, emphasized the need to work hard to get out the vote for Harris and Walz, but also for the Congressional candidates in California who could turn the House from red to blue. Chu spoke about the important issues in the election, including reproductive rights, gender equality, support for veterans, voting rights and the fate of democracy.
According to United Democratic Headquarters Campaign Manager Bill Hacket, “The United Democratic Headquarters will be working to flip the House from red to blue by campaigning for Congressional candidates throughout California and holding onto the Senate by campaigning for Democratic candidates in Nevada and Arizona.”
At the early morning event, rallygoers munched on doughnuts and bagels, bought lawn signs and t-shirts, and signed up to volunteer for phone banking, texting, canvassing and postcarding in support of Democrats in California, as well as in neighboring states like Arizona and Nevada.
Hacket reported that volunteers had already made 40,000 phone calls and texts, sent thousands of postcards and signed up for door-knocking in Nevada and Arizona.
The Headquarters will be open daily from now until the election for volunteer sign-ups, as well as sale of merchandise and lawn signs.
