After several months of COVID-19 restrictions, Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) announced it is now resuming its free in-person Home Improvement Program, which helps homeowners save money, use resources more efficiently and increase the comfort of their homes.

Following new safety guidelines, PWP’s Home Improvement Program assigns experts to evaluate your home’s energy- and water-saving requirements and to install home appliances to ensure you are saving water and power. To ensure your safety and the safety of program staff, PWP is dedicated to supporting social distancing and vendors will adhere to specific safety guidelines in response to COVID-19.

The Home Improvement Program provides services and installations with a maximum value of $4,000 per home, at no cost to the customer, PWP said.

No-cost services include water and energy use evaluation, which can either be in-person or virtual, adjusting your existing irrigation controller, and programming your thermostat.

At no cost, PWP will install LED light bulbs, advanced power strips, low-flow showerheads, bathroom and kitchen aerators, attic insulation using brown cellulose, air sealing and duct sealing, weather stripping, and tune-up your central air-conditioner, or even replace toilets.

The program also includes no-cost efficiency tests such as blower door tests and combustion safety tests, PWP said.

Due to the popularity of the program, appointments are typically reserved for up to four weeks in advance.

To reserve, call (626) 788-9838 or complete the sign-up form at the PWP Home Improvement Program page, www.cityofpasadena.net/water-and-power/homeimprovement, and a program representative will contact you to schedule a no-cost evaluation visit.

During the visit, the evaluator will install free energy and water efficiency products on the spot and make recommendations for additional improvements to your home. You will receive a customized Home Evaluation Report, which includes recommendations to help you save money and use resources more efficiently.

While in-person services are available, PWP is also offering virtual home audits to customers as well.
