A Pasadena-based finance company popped the cork Tuesday on a new credit card designed specifically for wine aficionados.

Vertical Finance’s new Grand Reserve World Mastercard allows customers to earn extra rewards points shopping at wineries, wine clubs and wine shops, as well as redeem those points for wine-related rewards, the company announced in a written statement.

“The Grand Reserve World Mastercard is designed with a cardholder-first approach and focused on the passion cardholders have for discovering, enjoying and collecting fine wine,” according to the statement.

Customers can earn five times the normal rate of rewards points at more than 350 Grand Reserve partners, such as boutique wineries nationwide. Cardholders can earn three times normal rewards points at another 17,000 wine-related locations, and double-points at all other merchants, according to Vertical Finance.

Customers also receive a Priority Wine Pass, which provides discounts on tastings at hundreds of West Coast wineries, a subscription to a wine magazine and access to members-only events, the company said.

“We are thrilled to launch an innovative new card designed for passionate and engaged wine enthusiasts,” Vertical Finance Founder and CEO Matthew Goldman said. “Our card makes it easy for consumers to earn meaningful rewards while indulging in their favorite hobby.”

As an introductory bonus, cardholders can earn 50,000 bonus points for spending $3,000 or more within 90 days of approval, the company said.

The new card is driven by Silicon Valley’s Deserve Inc.

It comes with a $149 annual fee and a variable interest rate ranging from 14.99 percent to 22.99 percent, according to Vertical Finance, the statement said.

The Grand Reserve World Mastercard is issued by Celtic Bank & Trust, which is a Utah-Chartered Industrial Bank, Vertical Finance said.
