Recent record amounts of snowfall in Mammoth Lakes have resulted in a large-scale State of Emergency and Sunday night triggered deployment of the Pasadena Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Type-1 team to that area, according to a City spokesperson.
Lisa Derderian said the Pasadena USAR team will assist resources already in place and aid in the safety of Mammoth residents and the community.
The team arrived in the Mammoth Lakes area early Monday. Since its arrival it received avalanche training.
The recent storm hit the Mammoth Lakes Mountain community hard, which caused massive snowfall and impassable roads, making it difficult for residents to exit their properties.
The town of Mammoth Lakes issued evacuation warnings for snow-damaged properties.
According to Derderian, the Pasadena USAR team committed six members, including two Captains, two Engineers, and two Firefighters, to assist the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department with the situation.
