Two Pasadena Fire Department engines have headed up to Northern California to help their counterparts with an explosive wildfire burning through wine country, officials said Monday.
The engines, staffed by six firefighters and two captains, set out for Sonoma County late-Sunday, said city spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
The fire broke out earlier in the day, prompting evacuations in Sonoma and Napa counties, according to Cal Fire. It quickly scorched an estimated 11,000 acres.
The latest wildfire erupted as firefighters were nearing full containment of the nearby LNU Lightning Complex Fire, which has blackened hundreds of thousands of acres in Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Yolo counties, destroyed nearly 1,500 structures, and claimed five lives since igniting on Aug. 17, Cal Fire officials said.
