Due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, food banks in Pasadena are in need of non-perishable food, cash donations and volunteers more than ever.

Tiffany Wright, Community Outreach and Media Specialist at the Pasadena City Manager’s Office, has posted a list of three local food banks that are in need of donations, including information on how you can help.

These include Pasadena Salvation Army Social Services, at 1000 E. Walnut St., the Foothill Unity Center at 191 N. Oak Ave., and The Food Pantry-Friends in Deed at 444 E. Washington Blvd.

For information on donating to Salvation Army Pasadena, call (626) 773-4404 and (626) 773-4503 preferably between 9 and 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Foothill Unity Center recently posted a wish list for items, including produce, dairy, meats and breads, and other things that would help relieve the stress many residents are now experiencing because of the COVID-19 crisis. Aside from monetary donations and gift cards to grocery stores, the Center is also asking for disposable gloves, bags and medium-sized boxes, personal hygiene products, house cleaning products, rain ponchos and 10×10 canopies.

They were also in need of volunteer drivers to help with the food delivery, according to the post.

In Pasadena, Foothill Unity Center is at 191 N. Oak Ave. For more information, visit www.foothillunitycenter.org or call (626) 356-3486.

Food service distributions at Foothill Unity Center is from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesdays, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, according to Tiffany Wright’s post.

The Food Pantry at Friends in Deed, at 444 E. Washington Blvd., has also posted lists of their most-needed shelf-stable items – items that are very popular and are hard to keep in stock. These include canned Tuna or chicken, soups, stew, chili, peanut butter, cereal, rice, oil, sugar, flour, and can openers.

They also accept non-perishable food items such as dry beans, whole grains, pasta and oats, as well as sliced bread and shelf-stable milk or powdered milk; coffee, jelly, tomato and spaghetti sauces.

Fresh poultry and meats, packaged prepared foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, milk, cheese, eggs and cold cuts can be delivered to Friends in Deed anytime on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursday mornings.
