The Pasadena Fire Department is getting ready to launch a series of events by the first week of October to usher in Pasadena Goes Pink, the local version of National Breast Cancer Month. The activities all are geared towards raising breast cancer awareness and raising funds for the benefit of local breast cancer patients

Pasadena Goes Pink 2015 starts with its Annual Kick-Off Event on Sunday, October 4th, with a Walk Around the Bowl – that’s the Rose Bowl – starting at 9:30 a.m. Firefighters and community members will be wearing pink during the walk, or black t-shirts printed with the Pasadena Fire Department name in pink – and a logo depicting a pink fire hose twisted in the anti-breast cancer ribbon fashion.

The Walk will be followed by a Family Barbecue Day at the Brookside Park.

On October 14th, it’s Fill the Pink Boot Day, as firefighters walk the streets and use pink-colored firemen’s boots to collect donations from drivers and pedestrians. This year’s locations will be at Foothill and Rosemead, and a second location at Lakewood Avenue between Green and Cordova. The firefighters will be on location from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Pasadena Goes Pink goes to the Annual California Pizza Kitchen fundraising event on October 21st, at the CPK on 99 N Los Robles Avenue. The restaurant usually donates 20 percent of proceeds, and guests display a flier from the fire department. The fundraising is on at lunch, 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and dinner, 4:00 to 10:00 p.m.

On October 24th, Pasadena’s Fire Station 38 is hosting a Health and Wellness Open House focusing on breast cancer awareness, starting at 9:00 a.m. Fire Station 38 is located at 1150 Linda Vista.

Last year, the Pasadena Goes Pink campaign raised $14,410.27 in donations and t-shirt sales. The money was turned over to the Huntington Memorial Hospital Breast Cancer Center during Breast Cancer Week, for the care of local breast cancer patients.

Pasadena Goes Pink t-shirts will be available at all Pasadena fire stations and at each of the events commemorating Breast Cancer Month.

More information and updates about the campaign are available on the Pasadena Goes Pink Facebook page, www.facebook.com/pasadena.pink.
