Pasadena High School Football Coach Dejuan Shamburger Resigns

Dejuan Shamburger, who over the past three seasons led the Pasadena High School Bulldogs to become one of the top teams in the San Gabriel Valley, has told school officials he will be resigning, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Breaking the story for SGV Tribune, Fred Robledo wrote that the decision “wasn’t a big surprise for those following the situation at the school.”

Shamburger’s resignation follows Bulldogs offensive coordinator Robert Maxie’s announcement that he was resigning from his position. Maxie is expected to be named Baldwin Park High School’s next head coach, according to the SGV Tribune.

“It was a great run and we did some great things and took this program to places it hasn’t been in a long time,” Shamburger told SGV Tribune. “I’m proud of that and glad where we were able to take this team.

“I just felt it was time to move on. I’m not done coaching. I want to finish school and get my teaching credential. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was time.”

Shamburger started as an assistant at PHS in 2009 and became the head coach in 2016, where he coached for seven seasons and achieved an overall record of 41-31. Over the past three seasons, Pasadena High won three straight Pacific League titles and beat rival John Muir High School twice, including a 47-0 win this past season.

Shamburger is a PHS alumnus. He’s had up to 14 years of coaching, serving in numerous coaching assignments over the last 10 years for PHS.
