Total Football Academy San Gabriel Valley teams reached the championships of the Capital Cup Tournament in Salem Oregon, with three local teams coming away with championship victories this holiday week.

Boys 2006, Boys 2007 and Boys 2009, won championships, said Miguel Garcia club director of Total Football Academy SGV, which is based in Pasadena.

“We took six teams up north. It was a well-run tournament,” said Garcia, club director and head coach of the Boys 2007 team. “Out of the six teams they all made it to a championship with Boys 2006, Boys 2007 and Boys 2009 crowned championship. Finalists were Boys 2008, Boys 2010, Girls 2010.”

“I’m really proud of our team, especially since we were the only California team in this tournament,” said Eric Alvarenga, head coach of the 2008 and 2009 teams.

It was a long road for the teams, which culminated in the tournament championships. The team travels in state and out of state tournaments and also competes against other local clubs in the San Gabriel Valley.

The team leadership and parents decided to sign the kids up for the Oregon Tournament because last year’s experience with older teams was good, said Garcia.

The Oregon tournament is sponsored by Timbers Soccer Club.

Garcia said all the players gave their best and the coach had special mention for team captains including Boys 2006 captain, Diego Alvarez, Boys 2007 captain Alexander Alvarez, Boys 2008 captains Boys 2009 captains Santos Aviles and Julian Acevedo
