Pasadena Media to Offer Internships to Local Students

The City’s local TV station announced on Monday that it will work with several local organizations to provide internships to local students.

“Pasadena Media’s Community Engagement team is excited to announce they will be working with the Light Bringer Project, Occidental College, Providence Christian College, and Exploring the Arts – the Tony Bennett Foundation – to provide internship programming to our local youth and college-age students this summer.”

“This is just the beginning,” said Jasiri Jenkins-Glenn, who was hired in July.

The new internship program is part of Jenkins-Glenn’s efforts to increase engagement in the Pasadena community. Glenn has worked to forge stronger relationships with local nonprofit and community partners, enhance the curriculum and organization of the Pasadena Media training courses.

“It’s an honor to serve the community that raised me. I came in with the understanding that community starts with the individual yet also includes the schools, families, and nonprofits who pave the future of Pasadena.”

The station also produces the award-winning Pasadena Monthly With Justin Chapman. The show broke the news that the Olympics would be returning to Pasadena. Also, the station now produces podcasts via its fully functional podcast bay.

Editor JK Stanfill, Sharon Huang, a UC Berkeley Film & Media alum, longtime local Terry Bourne, and eight-time Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Angela Harrer round out the Community Engagement team. Harrer recently introduced Pasadena Media’s new Writer’s Workshop Course.

Pasadena Media hosts an in-person orientation every first Monday of each month, which is the first step to free volunteer membership. After successful completion of the course, producers can sign up for 11 additional courses offered every month. These classes include the Podcaster Bootcamp and Workshop, Producer Bootcamp, Audio Essentials, Studio Camera Essentials, On-Location Camera Essentials, Editing with Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, and Social Media Essentials.

“It’s important that our individual and organizational community members know we are here as a resource,” Jasiri says.

The Community Engagement team is actively seeking to engage local nonprofits by offering free 30-second PSAs, Pasadena Media News story coverage, and other opportunities for spotlights on Pasadena Media-produced shows. Additionally, the team has launched a groundbreaking new show focused on accessibility within the disability community. It has plans for a couple of new productions focused on the environment and music education.

“Training people, especially the youth, is why Pasadena Media became what it is. So it was a no-brainer to fortify our class content, expand the types of trainings available to match the technological times we live in, and empower the people to create and share their voice. More than anyone, the kids need this type of outlet.”
