Pasadena Museum of History is proud to once again to join the more than 2,000 museums across the nation offering free admission this summer to active duty military personnel and their families as part of the 2015 Blue Star Museums program. The offer runs from Memorial Day (May 25) through Labor Day (September 7) as a means of showing our appreciation for those who are serving this nation.

Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families. The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation’s cultural heritage and learn more about their new communities after a military move. The complete list of participating museums is available at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

Pasadena Museum of History’s exhibitions during the Blue Star program in 2015 are particularly appropriate: When Johnny Came Marching West: How the Civil War Shaped Pasadena and Thaddeus Lowe: Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army commemorate the sesquicentennial (150th anniversary) of a conflict that has continued to affect the America in which we live. These exhibitions reveal intimate stories of veterans and spotlight the amazing exploits, bravery, courage, and heartbreak of both soldiers and civilians, personalizing a war that is often mentioned only through its bloody battles and great loss of life.

“We are honored to welcome our military families this summer,” notes PMH Executive Director Jeannette O’Malley. “We are particularly delighted to be able to share with them these extraordinary exhibitions that demonstrate how Pasadena and surrounding communities contributed to, and were affected by, the Civil War. They are not just about the courage and sacrifice made by so many during the war, but also about the resilience and strength of the men, women, and children who moved west to build new lives in these unfamiliar surroundings.”

The Exhibition Galleries at Pasadena Museum of History are open from 12:00 to 5:00 pm Wednesdays through Sundays. The Museum is located at 470 W. Walnut St., Pasadena; free parking is available in the Museum lot and on Walnut St. For additional exhibition information and visitor information, please visit www.pasadenahistory.org or call (626) 577-1660.
