Planned Parenthood of Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley will unveil a new healthcare center and host a happy hour today to mark the 47th anniversary of the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.
The Jan. 22, 1973 court decision ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction.
PPPSGV newest healthcare center will expand access to “high-quality and affordable comprehensive health care services.”
“Here in California, we’re expanding, not banning, access to abortion and reproductive health care,” said Sheri Bonner, CEO and President of PPPSGV.
The new state-of-the-art health care center is located in Baldwin Park. Like the PPSGV facility in Pasadena on North Lake Ave., it will offer comprehensive reproductive and sexual health services.
PPSGV said it experienced more than 63,000 patient visits at its four health centers last year.
The organization said it conducted more than 20,000 sex education sessions.
Its polling showed 77% support for the new Planned Parenthood health center in Baldwin Park.
The centers are lightning rods for protests because of controversy surrounding abortions.
“A patient’s health should drive important medical decisions, not a politician’s beliefs. These issues are between people, their families, and their doctors,” Bonner said.
In Pasadena tonight, PPSGV is holding a Roe v Wade 47th Anniversary Happy Hour from 6 to 8 p.m. to celebrate over four decades of reproductive rights.
