Pasadena Police Arrest Mother for Child Endangerment After Infant Tests Positive for Illicit Drug

Police took a mother into custody Tuesday after her baby showed signs of being under the influence of drugs.

Pasadena police Lt. Rudy Lemos said officers responded to a local hospital at about 3:16 p.m. regarding a nine-month-old infant who had possibly been drugged. The infant had been transported to the hospital by family members because she was lethargic.

While the infant was being treated by medical personnel, the mother, described as a 29-year-old local woman, arrived and provided the infant with a bottle, according to Lemos.Shortly after, the infant began showing severe signs of overdosing, he said.

Medical personnel immediately treated the infant, who was in fair condition Wednesday morning. Test results showed that the infant had ingested an illicit drug, Lemos said.

The Pasadena Police Dept.’s Special Victim’s Unit was called in to take over the investigation, and the mother was subsequently arrested on suspicion of child endangerment.

It is unclear at the time of this writing what type of drug was in the bottle.

Lemos said that there may be further testing to confirm the type of drug.

Booking records indicated that the mother was arrested at 1 a.m. was being held at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, with bail set at $100,000.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Pasadena Police Department.
