Pasadena Police Chief Recaps Week’s Critical Incidents

Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip L. Sanchez runs down last week's major public safety incidents

Pasadena Chief of Police Phillip L. Sanchez issued an email Sunday afternoon in which he recounted the Critical Incidents which occurred last week in Pasadena.

On October 12, at about 9:05 a.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue regarding a house fire. Pasadena Fire arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire while police offices provided traffic control. Pasadena Police Corporal J. Ward was on-scene coordinating police activities.

On October 11 at about 12:38 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to Fire Station 36 regarding a victim of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon investigation. On arrival, officers talked with the victim, who sustained multiple wounds as a result of being pistol-whipped. The victim was uncooperative and did not provide much information about the assault. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Our investigation is ongoing.

On October 16 at about 10:10 p.m., Pasadena Police responded to the area of Del Mar Street and Craig Avenue regarding a traffic collision involving motorcyclists. Officers arrived and determined the motorcyclists crashed into a street pole. The driver sustained serious injuries and was transported by the Pasadena Fired Department Paramedics to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition. The motorcyclist is a Male White in his 20s. The police department’s Traffic Unit responded to investigate the accident. Lieutenant John Dewar coordinated the investigation.

On October 17 at about 10:25 p.m., Pasadena Police officers responded to the 500 block of South Wilson Avenue regarding a robbery investigation. On arrival, officers talked with the victim, who said he was walking near his dorm when the suspects (#1 Male Black, 5’5,”150 pounds, dark T-shirt, long shorts; #2 Male Black, 6’0,” 150 pounds, wearing a dark hoodie) confronted him. One suspect strangled the victim while the other suspect stole his laptop bag. The suspects then fled from the location. On October 18 at about 4:13 a.m., Pasadena Police officers and California Highway Patrol personnel responded to the Lake Avenue Freeway 210 Overpass regarding a possible suicide female. The subject was standing on the overpass ledge beyond the safety fence. CHP officers stopped traffic on the 210 (eastbound side), which impacted the 134 freeway; All traffic was stopped. Pasadena Police Sergeant P. Carpenter began talking to the female subject and a command post was established. At approximately 5:16 a.m., the female subject walked off the overpass and was taken into protective custody. She was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation. The freeways were reopened at about 5:13 a.m.
