Pasadena Police Chief: Remain Vigilant, Aware

Pasadena Police Chief Phillip Sanchez said Monday’s Boston Marathon Bombing where there were at least three fatalities and at least 130 people injured – including amputations and severe burns – is a powerful reminder to remain vigilant and aware of your environment.

“If you see something suspicious, please notify the Pasadena at (626) 744-4241. Of course if the active warrants an emergency response, please call 9-1-1.” Sanchez said.

“The Pasadena Police Department’s Counter-Terrorism Unit will remain in touch with the JRIC, federal agencies, and the State Threat Assessment Center to ensure we have the most contemporary information,” he said.

“The Pasadena Police Department joins the many local, state and federal officials offering our concerns and condolences to the victims of the bombing incident at the Boston Marathon today,” he said.

Two large explosions, just 50 yards apart, went off about 11:50 a.m., more than four hours into the race.

One of the explosions happened near the entrance of the Fairmont Copley Hotel in Copley Square. The blast scattered hundreds of onlookers and runners, and left a bloody scene of injured spectators, including children, The Lookout reported.

Boston Medical Center took in 20 patients, including two children, most of whom are being treated for “lower leg injuries,” The Lookout reported.

A spokeswoman for Tufts Medical Center said the hospital is treating nine patients for conditions such as shrapnel wounds, ruptured ear drums, and “serious orthopedic and neuromuscular trauma to the lower legs.”

At a Monday night press conference, Gov. Deval Patrick urged Bostonians to be vigilant on their morning commute Tuesday, and to report any suspicious packages to the police. The FBI has officially taken over the investigation, and is treating it as a potential terrorist attack.

“For now,” said Sanchez, “please take a moment to hold the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing in your prayers and positive thoughts.”
