[Updated] On Sunday, at approximately 5 p.m., Pasadena police found 15 caged dogs in an unattended van near Sierra Madre Villa Ave and Electronic Drive, according to authorities.
A security guard from a nearby shopping complex heard barking coming from inside the van and alerted a police officer who was patrolling the complex, police said.
According to a news cameraman from RMG News, the temperature outside was recorded at 98 degrees at the time of the discovery of the animals.
Contrary to an earlier report, Pasadena police Lt. Chris Sharma said the van’s windows on the driver’s and passenger’s sides were down at the time of the officer’s arrival.
The officer found dogs of varying sizes locked in cages, barking loudly. He opened the van’s rear doors.
The condition of the dogs is not yet known.
Sharma said the dogs were associated with an adoption event in the shopping complex.
The Pasadena Humane Society will take over the investigation of the incident, Sharma said.
Pasadena Now has reached out to Pasadena Humane to get information on the conditions of the dogs, but has not received a response.
