Pasadena Police Respond to Over 5,700 9-1-1 Calls in December

Pasadena police reported officers stayed busy responding to just over 9,300 calls for service in December, capping off the year at 114,454 calls for service from residents of which 62,330 came through 9-1-1.

Pasadena Police Lt. William Grisafe said the critical events detailed in a year-end Community Brief released by police over the weekend comprise a snapshot of the more than 600 calls received by the Police Communications Center every day.

Grisafe also said officers seized 31 illegal firearms in December, including 21 handguns, eight rifles, and two shotguns, according to police records.

Officers employed “de-escalation techniques” 184 times during the month, he added.

Here is the Department’s Community Brief for December 2021:

December 1, 2021 at 6:31 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Los Robles Ave. and Orange Grove Bl. concerning a man seen tagging gang graffiti with spray paint at several locations. A witness followed the suspect until officers arrived. Officers detained the adult suspect and he was positively identified. Further investigation revealed the suspect was likely responsible for similar gang graffiti at a total of 19 locations. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Pasadena City jail.

December 2, 2021 at 8:22 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 600 block of Lincoln Ave. regarding a report of brandishing a firearm. A subject was seen driving by the location, rolling down his car window and pointing a firearm at the victim before driving away. Detectives are working to identify the suspect.

December 3, 2021 at 1:04 p.m.: Pasadena officers along with members of the Los Angeles County Probation Department contacted a subject who was on probation in the 100 block of El Nido Ave. A search of the probationer’s property was conducted and a large amount of narcotics, two firearms and ammunition were recovered. The subject was arrested, and booked at the PPD jail for the sales of narcotics and a felon in possession of a firearm.

December 5, 2021 at 6:27 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to Raymond Ave. and Washington Blvd. to investigate a report of an assault. The suspect had cut the victim with a knife and fled before officers arrived. The victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital by paramedics.

December 5, 2021 at 3:20 p.m.: Pasadena Dispatch was notified of a driver slumped over in the driver seat of a vehicle in the area of Rio Grande St. and Lake Ave. When officers arrived, the driver was unresponsive and appeared to be suffering from an apparent overdose. Officers began life saving measures to include the administering of Narcan. The driver regained consciousness and immediately began to struggle with the officers. The driver was restrained without incident. Located in the vehicle was a large amount of narcotics and a loaded weapon. After being examined by paramedics, the subject was arrested and booked at the Pasadena City jail.

December 7, 2021 at 1:42 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 500 block of Prospect Blvd. regarding an armed robbery. The victims were walking in the neighborhood when the suspect vehicle pulled up adjacent to them. The driver exited the vehicle and demanded their belongings while holding a handgun. The suspect grabbed one of the victim’s purse and got back into the suspect vehicle and drove away.

December 8, 2021 at 3:17 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to La Pintoresca Park regarding reports of shots heard in the area. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting and a discarded firearm on the south end of the park. Witnesses reported several male subjects fleeing the area after the shooting. No victims were located.

December 8, 2021 at 8:00 p.m.: Pasadena Dispatch received reports of a female heard screaming in the area of Clinton St. and Lincoln Ave. Officers responded and contacted a male and female seated in a car. The subjects were asked to exit the vehicle for further investigation. During a consensual search, a large amount of narcotics and a loaded firearm were located inside the vehicle. The male subject was arrested and booked at the Pasadena City jail.

December 8, 2021 at 9:25 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to a local hospital regarding a subject with possible knife injuries to the back of his head. Officers learned that the victim was walking through a local park in the area of Raymond Ave. and Holly St. when two subjects approached and assaulted the victim while demanding money. The attackers fled the area and the victim took a bus home. A family member transported the victim to a local hospital. The hospital staff contacted the Pasadena Police Department.

December 9, 2021 at 7:02 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Lincoln Ave. and Howard St. regarding reports of shots fired. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, dispatch advised that a gunshot victim had arrived at a local hospital. Officers identified the location of the shooting to be the eastbound on-ramp to the 210 freeway at Howard St. California freeways and on-ramps fall under the jurisdiction of the California Highway Patrol. CHP was contacted and assumed the investigation. The victim received non-life-threatening injuries.

December 10, 2021 at 7:28 a.m.: On November 26, 2021 Pasadena officers responded to a vehicle collision at Allen Ave. and San Pasqual St. Officers determined a vehicle struck and fatally injured a pedestrian in the crosswalk. The Pasadena Police Department’s Major Accidents Investigation Team (MAIT) responded for the investigation and after careful analysis of the evidence, determined the driver was grossly negligent during the operation of this vehicle. Felony vehicular manslaughter charges were filed against the driver and Investigators arrested him at his residence on December 10, 2021.

December 11, 2021 at 12:03 a.m.: Officers responded to the 500 block of N. Lake Ave. regarding a residential burglary in progress. The victim was home alone and heard the voices in his residence. Officers arrived and immediately contacted two subjects on the driveway of the victim’s residence. A third suspect was found hiding and was in possession of stolen property. All three subjects were arrested and the victim’s loss was recovered.

December 11, 2021 at 11:56 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Foothill Bl. and Rosemead Bl. regarding a strong-arm robbery. The victim was pan handling in the area and had a confrontation with a group of 6-7 subjects. The group assaulted the victim, stole his personal property and fled the area in a vehicle.

December 13, 2021 at 6:21 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to a silent robbery alarm at 1200 block of N. Lake Ave. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two suspects had used hammers to shatter glass cases inside the store to access merchandise. Several phones and other electronics were stolen. The suspects were last seen fleeing the area on foot.

December 15, 2021 at 4:14 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 1300 block of N. Lake Ave. in regards to a fight in progress with multiple subjects involved. Upon arrival, the victim told officers that three unknown suspects assaulted the victim inside a store. The victim refused medical attention and did not know who the suspects were. The motive for the assault is unknown.

December 16, 2021 at 4:37 a.m.: Pasadena officers stopped a vehicle for a vehicle code violation in the area of Daisy Ave. and Walnut St. During the stop, officers observed a firearm inside the vehicle. Officers quickly detained the driver and recovered the fully loaded firearm with an extended magazine. The driver was arrested and transported to the Pasadena City jail where he was booked for the weapons charges.

December 18, 2021 at 10:16 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 1700 block of N. Los Robles Ave. to investigate a shots fired call. During the investigation, officers discovered that bullets struck two houses, but there are no reports of any injuries. Officers are canvassed the scene and found evidence of a shooting. Detectives are investigating this incident.

December 19, 2021 at 12:44 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to an armed robbery, which occurred in the 1300 block of N. Lake Ave. Three suspects approached the victim, displayed a handgun and demanded money. Out of fear for his safety, the victim gave the suspects money and a cell phone and fled the area in a vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.

December 19, 2021 at 4:54 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to a welfare check on a female heard yelling in the 100 block of E. Holly St. A witness told officers the female was seen being pulled into her apartment by an unknown male. During the investigation, officers learned that the unknown suspect broke into the victim’s residence during the night and attempted to sexually assault her. The suspect, who is out of prison on parole, was arrested and booked at Pasadena City jail.

December 19, 2021 at 4:08 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 200 block of Holly St. to investigate an assault that had just occurred. The reported that the suspect parked his car, exited and for unknown reasons, assaulted the victim with a tree branch. The suspect fled in his vehicle immediately after the assault. Witnesses told officers the attack appeared to be unprovoked. The victim was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

December 20, 2021 at 8:49 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Carlton St. and Lincoln Ave. in regards to a shots fired call. The victims were in the driveway when a vehicle pulled in front of the location. The driver shouted at the victims, stopped and the victims ran. As they ran, they heard two guns shots. The victims were not injured and the investigation is ongoing.

December 20, 2021 at 8:29 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Foothill Bl. and Sierra Madre Bl. in regards to a strong-armed robbery investigation. The victim stated that the suspect approached him on foot, simulated a weapon and demanded the victim’s property. The victim feared for his safety and gave the suspect the property. The suspect fled onto the nearby, freeway on-ramp.

December 21, 2021 at 12:08 a.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the location to investigate a disturbance call between neighbors. The neighbors have been having an ongoing conflict involving loud music and parking. Officers made contact with the victims who stated the suspect neighbor produced a handgun and threatened their lives. Officers made contact with the suspect at his residence and arrested him for assault with a deadly weapon and criminal threats. No weapons were recovered; however, evidence of a firearm was located. No one was injured.

December 22, 2021 at 3:19 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Summit Ave. and Hammond St. regarding a call of shots fired. Officers canvassed the area and determined a vehicle to-vehicle shooting had occurred in the area of Summit Ave. and Claremont St. The victim and suspect both fled the scene prior to police arrival. There were no known injuries resulting from the shooting.

December 22, 2021 at 4:26 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 400 block of N. Hill Ave. regarding a possible hot prowl burglary that had just occurred. During the attempted burglary, the suspect tried to gain entry into a residence by forcing a door open. An officer located the suspect in the 1500 block of E. Maple St. and attempted to detain the resistive suspect. Additional officers responded to assist. The suspect was arrested and booked for numerous crimes, including assault on a police officer. No officers were injured during this incident.

December 22, 2021 at 10:09 p.m.: Pasadena officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 1000 block of Summit Ave. A traffic stop was conducted and upon contact, it was discovered the vehicle had recently been reported stolen. Officers detained the driver (sole occupant) and a search of the vehicle revealed an unloaded firearm. The suspect was booked at Pasadena City jail.

December 23, 2021 at 9:22 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the 300 block of San Palo Pl. regarding a residential burglary. The victim stated that they were out of town at the time of the burglary and unknown suspect(s) forced entry into the home. The victim estimated the loss value at over $100,000. The investigation in ongoing.

December 26, 2021 at 11:18 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of N. Oakland Ave. in regards a male heard screaming. Upon arrival, officers located a female outside of the residence, who was holding a knife and a male victim who had been stabbed by the female. The suspect was detained and paramedics transported the male to a local hospital for treatment. The female suspect was arrested for attempt murder.

December 27, 2021 at 9:41 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the location regarding a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 200 block of E. Orange Grove Blvd. The victim in the case was a parking enforcement officer who was issuing a parking citation. While completing the citation, a subject from one of the apartments confronted the officer, took her property and assaulted her. The victim was able to retreat to the safety of her work vehicle and contact police. The suspect fled the location in a vehicle before officers arrived. The victim did not sustain any significant injuries during the assault.

December 28, 2021 at 8:01 p.m.: Pasadena officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation in the 100 block of W. Claremont St. A records check revealed that the driver was unlicensed and had an outstanding arrest warrant. The driver admitted to officers that he had a loaded firearm in the center console of his vehicle. He was detained and a loaded firearm was recovered from the vehicle. He was transported to the Pasadena City jail for booking.

December 30, 2021 at 3:23 p.m.: Pasadena officers responded to the area of Arroyo Blvd. and Del Monte St. in regards to a young, partially dressed child who was walking alone in the rain. Officers contacted the child, provided her with warm clothing and began looking for her parents. After about an hour, the child’s parents were located. The family was staying in a local motel. Based on the totality of the circumstances, the parents were arrested for child endangerment.
