Pasadena Police to Conduct Checkpoint Friday

The Pasadena Police Department announced that officers will conduct a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday at an undisclosed location within the city limits.

The location of the checkpoint is determined by data on impaired driving-related crashes, with the primary goal being to promote public safety by removing suspected impaired drivers from the road, police said.

According to Lieutenant Anthony Russo, impaired drivers pose a significant risk to other drivers on the road, and any measure to reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road improves traffic safety.

Russo said it is important to note that impaired driving is not limited to alcohol consumption, as some prescription medication and over-the-counter drugs may also impact a driver’s ability to operate a vehicle safely. While the use of medicinal and recreational marijuana may be legal, driving under its influence remains illegal, he said.

Motorists charged with a first-time DUI offense face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties and risk having their driver’s license suspended.

The program funding for the checkpoint has been provided through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, courtesy of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
