The Pasadena Police Department is conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on Friday, April 26. The Dept. reminded drivers of the severe legal and financial repercussions individuals may face if they are caught driving impaired.
Even first-time DUI offenders could face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, and have their license suspended, the Police Department said in a statement.
The checkpoint operation is part of the Police Department’s program to bolster public safety by identifying and apprehending suspected impaired drivers, the statement said.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Pasadena Police Lieutenant Anthony Russo said. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improves traffic safety and can save lives.”
The statement also cautioned against the misconception that impaired driving is solely linked to alcohol consumption. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving, it said. The Police Department also clarified that even with the legalization of medicinal and recreational marijuana, driving under its influence remains illegal.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license, the statement continued.
The Pasadena Police Department’s DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint program is funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, facilitated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
