Pasadena Police to Hold Checkpoint on Friday

Pasadena police officers are planning a checkpoint on Friday to screen drivers for sobriety and valid licenses, officials said.

The checkpoint will take place from 6 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in the city, the Pasadena Police Department said in a written statement.

“Officers will look for signs that drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, with officers checking drivers for proper licensing,” the statement said.

The locations for such checkpoints are chosen based on histories of DUI-related crashes or arrests, officials added.

In addition to intoxicants like alcohol and marijuana, “Some prescription medications or over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving,” according to the statement. “Always follow directions for use and read warning labels about driving or ‘operating heavy machinery,’ which includes driving a car.”

On average, those charged with DUI face $13,500 in fines and penalties, along with suspended licenses, officials said.

Funding for the checkpoint is being provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
