Pasadena Board of Education President Scott Phelps is slated to deliver the 2021 State of the Schools address on Wednesday.
Phelps said he plans to discuss the Pasadena Unified School District’s fiscal footing.
“We’ll try to include the latest information from the governor’s May [budget] revise, which he’s released and has some interesting elements to it,” Phelps said.
“There also may be some analysis of what it would take fiscally to raise employee salaries to the average of a certain comparison groups of districts that we use with our employee unions,” he said.
The presentation will include a video presentation created by staff made up of footage from students and teachers “surviving and thriving, to certain degrees, during COVID,” according to Phelps.
He said he also plans to touch on a new PUSD initiative to foster diversity, equity and inclusion, which is expected to be formally announced in the following days.
The address will also include a question-and-answer session, he said.
The May 26 speech will begin at 6 p.m. and is to be broadcast online. Details were to be posted at https://www.pusd.us/Page/9412. The annual address is required by the Pasadena City Charter.
