The City of Pasadena’s Department of Public Works, in coordination with the One Arroyo Foundation, will hold a public Scoping Meeting on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at La Casita Del Arroyo, 177 S. Arroyo Blvd., to share information about the proposed Mayberry Parker Bridge Access Improvement Project and receive written comments on the environmental analysis to be addressed in the Draft Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration.
The Scoping Meeting is an information-gathering meeting, not a public hearing, and no public testimony or recordation of the meeting will occur.
Attendees are encouraged to submit all comments in writing, which the Department of Public Works will review and consider as part of the project’s environmental analysis.
No decisions about the Project will be made at the Scoping Meeting.
The proposed project aims to enhance pedestrian access and safety around the historic bridge area, encompassing approximately 0.61 acres located below and immediately to the north and south of the Colorado Street Bridge overpass of the Arroyo Seco Channel.
The improvements include providing new pedestrian access to the Mayberry Parker Bridge, rehabilitating existing trails through stabilization of deteriorated segments, stairways, stone walls, and eroded slopes, and installing a new high-visibility crosswalk at the intersection of Arroyo Boulevard and Westminster Drive.
The project also plans to place a steel pipe railing system onto the bridge deck for safety and replace a section of chain link fencing with tubular steel fencing.
An initial environmental study recommending a Mitigated Negative Declaration has been prepared, identifying possible impacts related to biological resources, cultural resources, geology and soils, and tribal cultural resources.
However, with the implementation of mitigation measures, all potential impacts are expected to be less than significant.
Attendees are encouraged to submit all comments in writing, which will be reviewed and considered by the Department of Public Works as part of the environmental analysis of the Project.
Written comments, including emails, must be submitted by 5 p.m. on June 10 to Jeff Khun at the Department of Public Works via email, jkhun@cityofpasadena.net or in writing addressed to 100 N. Garfield Ave., Suite N306, Pasadena, CA 91101.
Written comments will also be accepted at the Scoping Meeting on Tuesday, May 21.
The Notice of Intent, Initial Study/Mitigated Negative Declaration, and technical reports are available for review during regular business hours at the City of Pasadena Permit Center, San Rafael Library, or online on the City of Pasadena’s Environmental Notices webpage, www.cityofpasadena.net/
Written comments will also be accepted at the Scoping Meeting on Tuesday, May 21.
