Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Jon R. Gundry today announced the appointment of Adam Wolfson as the district’s Director of Communications and Community Engagement, effective December 15.

As a member of the PUSD’s Executive Leadership Team, Wolfson will be critical in moving the district forward under the leadership of Superintendent Gundry, who was appointed this summer.

“I am pleased to welcome Adam to PUSD as we move forward with district’s strategic plan and strengthening partnerships with our parents and community,” said Superintendent Gundry. “He brings experience with the opportunities and challenges facing public schools in California, and as a resident of Pasadena, a profound commitment to parents and the community.”

Wolfson joins PUSD from the California Department of Education, where he has served as the Southern California liaison for the State Superintendent of Public Instruction since 2006.

As Director of Communications and Community Engagement, Wolfson will manage the district’s media relations, internal and external communications, parent engagement, media relations, KLRN-TV, and translations unit.

“I look forward to working collaboratively with the PUSD community to develop meaningful partnerships that benefit the students in our schools,” said Mr. Wolfson.

As Southern California Liaison, Wolfson represented CDE during the administrations of current State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom  Torlakson and former Superintendent Jack O’Connell.  In this capacity, he participated in community and civic functions from Bakersfield to San Diego and planned visits and media events for the State Superintendent.

Wolfson has worked in the communications and government field in Southern California since 1998, most notably serving as Governor Gray Davis’ Deputy Director of Advance from 1999-2003.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz.  He has lived in Pasadena since 1999.
