Local organization Pasadena Village, a community of older adults who help one another navigate the challenges of aging in their own homes,

Plans to celebrate its anniversary this week by looking ahead to the future.

“We took the whole year to celebrate our 10th anniversary, and we’ve been celebrating our past and our present. And this party on October 6th is to celebrate our future,” said Katie Brandon, Executive Director of Pasadena Village.

Brandon said the event aims to gather members and potential members to envision what the Village will look like in another 10 years and beyond.

Pasadena Village’s 10th anniversary event coincides with the launch of the nonprofit’s “Open October,” which is a month-long open house to celebrate the anniversary, according to Brandon.

“We have over 17 events available, almost all of them free or very low-cost opportunities for people to learn more about Pasadena Village, meet some of our members, and engage in some of the wonderful rich discussion groups, walks, even ping pong and dinners out and lunches out.”

Brandon hopes many people will come to the nonprofit’s upcoming events.

“I think it’s important when older adults can engage with each other in the community that they love.”

“It’s such a big deal to celebrate that we’ve been here for 10 years and we’re growing and we’re getting bigger and we’re helping support more older adults.”

So far, Pasadena Village has 130 members. According to Brandon, they are older adults who live independently in their own homes and engage together in activities throughout the greater Pasadena area, but also connect to the resources they need to continue to live independently.

Brandon said the anniversary event is open to members and non-members.

“We look forward to welcoming all our guests for a hosted bar with some lovely wines and great passed appetizers.”

“It’s going to be a wonderful evening with raffle prizes and just time to connect and build community because Pasadena Village is all about building community,” said Brandon.

Celebration plans call for live music, food, drinks and a range of raffle prizes on Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 p.m. at The Shakespeare Club, 171 S Grand Ave, Pasadena.
