On Saturday, November 3rd, Pasadena Waldorf High School (PWHS) welcomed prospective students and their parents to the first open house of the 2013-2014 admissions season. The event began with a panel presentation by Corby Gallegos, 9th grade class advisor and language arts, drama and history teacher; Mark Dinan, geometry and chemistry teacher; Ted Masur, music teacher; and Molly Cleator, applied arts teacher. The teachers spoke about how they implement a Waldorf curriculum designed to meet the high school students’ emerging interests and needs. After the panel, students participated in a sample lesson in the fully equipped science lab.

The arts are an integral part of the Waldorf curriculum, which uses drama and the arts to explore who students are, and how they express and present themselves. Corby walked parents through exercises exploring these ideas.
With a growing need in the larger community for a different approach to education—one that perceives the student as a whole person with more than merely academic or athletic needs, interests and aptitudes—the growth of Pasadena Waldorf High School is expected to be steady.
