Pasadena Water and Power Earns Diamond Level RP3 Designation for Exceptional Service from the American Public Power Association

Pasadena Water and Power (PWP) has achieved the highest designation, Diamond Level RP3, from the American Public Power Association (APPA), recognizing PWP among the top 5% of public power utilities nationwide for their consistent and secure electric service, a PWP statement on Tuesday said. 

The RP3 (Reliable Public Power Provider) designation, in effect for three years, acknowledges public power utilities excelling in reliability, safety, workforce development, and system improvement. 

In a statement, PWP said the recognition underscores the utility’s dedication to sound business practices and a utility-wide commitment to the safe and reliable delivery of electricity. PWP joins an elite group of over 245 public power utilities nationwide holding the RP3 designation. 

This is PWP’s second Diamond designation in the APPA RP3 Program since 2014. For this year, PWP is listed as one of 37 utilities that received the Diamond Level designation. Fifty-four other utilities received either Platinum or Gold Level designations. 

“PWP takes great pride in providing safe and reliable water and power service to our community,” Varoojan Avedian, Acting Assistant General Manager of Power Delivery, said. “This is the culmination of a great deal of work from a lot of people who really care about our community. We are committed to building on this success to continually enhance our operations and service.” 

The American Public Power Association (APPA), in existence for 18 years, serves as the voice of not-for-profit, community-owned utilities powering 49 million people in nearly 2,000 towns and cities throughout the United States. The association advocates for energy policy, technology, trends, training, and operations.
