U.S. EPA’s San Francisco regional office announced Tuesday, Oct 24 that as part of $13 million in grants across California, the Council for Watershed Health in Pasadena will receive $500,000 for its ReDesignLA project.

The project is described as a mentor-mentee model of technical assistance and capacity building for community-based organizations and Tribes to develop community-led green infrastructure and climate resiliency projects.

ReDesignLA aims to empower local leaders, non-profits, and small municipalities to redesign their neighborhoods, schools, and communities and achieve relevant social, environmental, and economic impacts on health and safety through water resources.

The Council for Watershed Health is a Pasadena-based non-profit organization founded 25 years ago to advance the health and sustainability of the region’s watersheds, rivers, streams, and habitat in natural areas and urban neighborhoods.

The organization’s mission is to advance the health and sustainability of the region’s watersheds, rivers, streams, and habitats through science-based research, education, and inclusive stakeholder engagement.

The $13 million in grant allocations are for Environmental Justice Projects as part of President Biden’s ‘Investing in America’ agenda.

“These community-driven projects will improve the health, equity, and resilience of communities while setting a blueprint for local solutions that can be applied across the nation,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan.
