Pasadenan Appointed by Governor Newsom to State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology

Gov. Gavin Newsom has selected a Pasadena woman to join the state’s Board of Barbering and Cosmetology, the governor’s office announced Thursday.

Tonya Fairley, 49, a Democrat, was named to the position.

“Fairley has been Owner of Strandz on Grand Inc. since 2017, TS Fairley Leadership and Personnel Development Co. since 2015 and Strandz Hair Studio since 2013,” Newsom’s office said in a written statement. “She is a member of the John Maxwell Team and the International Association of Women.”

The appointment requires senate confirmation, officials said. The compensation for the job is $100 per diem.
