Pasadenans continued leading the region in COVID-19 vaccinations with 78.5% of the population older than 12 fully vaccinated, authorities announced Tuesday.

Another 8.9% of residents have received single doses of two-dose vaccine regimens, according to Pasadena Public Health Department data.

Meanwhile, PPHD officials reported another three infections on Tuesday, as well as one additional fatality. The statistics covered the July Fourth holiday.

The death occurred in January but was just added to PPHD data, said city spokesperson Lisa Derderian. It was the first death included with the local death toll since June 3, when two other cases from months earlier were formally included in PPHD records.

All told, Pasadena health officials have recorded 11,388 COVID-19 infections and 350 deaths.

Over the prior week, the city recorded an average of 7.3 new infections daily.

L.A. County public health officials reported 326 new infections and three deaths on Tuesday, bringing the county’s totals to 1,253,065 COVID-19 cases and 24,507 fatalities.

Just over 270 people were being treated at county hospitals for the virus, according to a Los Angeles County Department of Public Health statement.

L.A. County Director of Public Health Dr. Barbara Ferrer said the virus is maintaining its hold in areas with lower vaccination rates.

“We continue to see in places where there are high rates of COVID-19 vaccinations transmission of COVID-19 has plummeted and remains low. While vaccination rates continue to increase throughout L.A. County, COVID-19 and variants of concern like the Delta variant remain a threat to everyone unvaccinated,” she said.

“L.A. County has recently seen increases in cases, hospitalizations, and daily test positivity, and the people that are overwhelmingly suffering from COVID-19 are the people who are not vaccinated. The best way to protect those not able to get vaccinated, including the 1.3 million children under 12 years of age, is to surround them with vaccinated folks,“ Ferrer added.

“With rising community transmission, we already have noted increased cases occurring among even our very youngest children,” she said. “If you are 12 or older and around younger children, please take time soon to get vaccinated if you have not yet done so. Let’s continue to keep each other safe.”

The California Department of Public Health announced 5,730 new infections and 97 deaths on Tuesday, representing the tally for the Independence Day weekend.

In all, the state has documented 3,719,674 COVID-19 infections and 62,238 deaths.

The statewide average positivity rate continues a slow but steady climb to 1.7%, according to CDPH data. The rate was recorded at 0.7% as recently as June 6.

As of Tuesday, L.A. County accounted for 34% of California’s COVID-19 infections and 39% of the state’s fatalities.
