PCC Presents Distinguished Lecturer Award to Two Instructors

Two Pasadena City College instructors were named to the school’s Distinguished Lecturer Award, it was announce today.

According to Juan Gutierrez, media relations officer at PCC, Dance adjunct professor Richard Kuller and Painting associate professor Rebecca Morris were both awarded by the school’s Board of Trustees and Academic Senate for their outstanding service to students and excellence in creative and innovative teaching.

“I truly love teaching at PCC and working with the students here,” Morris said in a released statement. “I feel so honored to have my energies and enthusiasm acknowledged. Having come back from my sabbatical last year refreshed and re-excited about teaching, this honor holds a special place and value to me.”

Morris began teaching at PCC during the fall of 2000 and currently teaches beginning, intermediate, advanced painting and foundation drawing.

An adjunct professor dance, Kuller has been teaching tap and jazz at PCC since 2004.

“I did not see it coming,” Kuller stated. “I was shocked when they started talking about me.  My heart started thumping.”

In addition to his teaching, Kuller has choreographed musicals for professors Duke Stroud and Whitney Rydbeck in the Theatre Department, an opera for professor Anne-Marie Ketchum in the Music Department, and, for the past two years, the dance unit of PCC’s Tournament of Roses Honor Band.

During the summer, Kuller directs an eight-week Musical Theatre Performance workshop.

The Distinguished Lecturer Award is given by the Board of Trustees and Academic Senate to one full-time and one adjunct professor each year.
