In its first meeting since Superintendent/President Erika Endrijonas accepted the chief executive position at Santa Barbara City College, the Pasadena City College Board of Trustees voted in closed session on Wednesday to hold a special meeting to take up the question of appointing Dr. Endrijonas’ successor.

The Santa Barbara Community College District Board of Trustees announced earlier this month that they had selected Endrijonas for the job.

She will start her new position in August.

SBCC said in a press statement that Dr. Endrijonas’ employment is subject to contract negotiations. Her contract is expected to go before the SBCC Board of Trustees at their June 15 meeting.

“Dr. Endrijonas brings a strong commitment to the work we do for student access and success,” said Board President Jonathan Abboud. “She has a wealth of experience as a community college president overseeing a budget of over $300 million at Pasadena City College, and she served as a dean at SBCC for nine years. She has demonstrated that she is equity and antiracism focused, transparent and collaborative.”

According to a story that appeared in the Pasadena City College Courier earlier this month, the PCC Board of Trustees was divided over the potential extension of Endrijonas’ contract.

Endrijonas’ contract was extended through 2024 by a 5-2 vote earlier this year, but a positive review should have extended the contract through 2025.

According to the Courier, the board may have violated the Ralph M. Brown Act, which governs legislative bodies in the state, when it evaluated the Endrijonas in June.

Meanwhile, Dr. Endrijonas said she is excited to take on the role of Superintendent/President at Santa Barbara City College.

“It has been my goal since I left SBCC to return,” said Dr. Endrijonas. “It is where I started my community college career. I am thrilled to render service in a place I love.”
