Submissions for the third annual Peace In the Streets Global Film Festival will open on March 14, 2016, at the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena. Subsequently, the Los Angeles County Alliance for Boys & Girls Clubs will be introducing the program in the other 25 Clubs in the Alliance.

Participating sponsors and supporters include UNICEF’s Voices of Youth, Plural+, Foundation for Culture of Peace (Madrid), Department of Justice, Fathers Inc. (an initiative of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services), US Department of Education, GlobalKids, the Riordan Foundation, Womensphere, Impact Inc., iHEART RADIO, Sony Creative Software, and Uber.

How it works: Youth compete by submitting videos of up to five minutes long on how they would make Peace In The Streets at www.psgff.com or #psgff. There are three age categories: eight and under, nine to 13, and 14 to 18. Deadline for entries is September 15, 2016.

Launch and training session for Club youth and Media will be held Monday, March 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena Slavik Branch (3230 East Del Mar, Pasadena).

Selecting a winner

Winners will be honored at an awards ceremony to be held at the United Nations where their films will be shown in the United Nations Delegates dining facilities. There will be another day of activities at the Paley Media Center hosted by our partners Plural+ with youths from all over the world.

“Films can be made on any device: phones, tablets, video cameras, etc. and will be judged on the story told, not necessarily on production values,” noted Carole Sumner Krechman, the Chairman, Founder and President of the Peacemaker Corps Association, a non-profit 501-C3 charity dedicated to teaching children around the world how to make Peace in the Streets. PCA is a United Nations NGO with ECOSOC status (www.Peacemakercorps.org).

Brian Davis, Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Pasadena, added, “This competition is a wonderful way for our kids to learn how to tell a story using technology while being encouraged to unleash their creativity. Creating peace is an aspiration that rightly deserves our attention and we are happy and honored to be launching this program at our Club.”
